WHAT IS GAVEL?
I. Club Description
The Gavel Club of Ateneo de Cebu is a non-profittable, student-led organization under the educational institution, Sacred Heart School - Ateneo de Cebu.Atenean Gaveliers are only allowed to be from the Senior High School Department. The organization aims to train students as efficient public speakers and leaders.The Gavel Club of Ateneo de Cebu is affiliated with Toastmasters International; an educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. The organization is also Cebu Province's SECOND Gavel Club, after CEBU-SCI.
II. Club Overview
Among the 21st Century Skills the youth possess are the skills of communication and collaboration. Rooted in these aptitudes of the younger generations, one of the most significant gifts we can give to the youth is the support and platform to be heard and let their voices magnify the echoes of causes they represent.

The Gavel Club aims to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

C. The Gavel Club's Goals
• To DEVELOP CONFIDENCE in public speaking and social skills among its members.• To nurture and build interpersonal connections. REKINDLING the SPIRIT OF SOCIALIZING and engagement in social gatherings• To open opportunities EXPLORING the POTENTIALS of students through public speaking and proactive communication roles• To equip students with the right mindset and attitude when GIVING AND ACCEPTING CRITICISMS for personal formative development• To BOOST SKILLS in time management, listening and collaboration, and verbal stage presentation• To initiate a training environment where mistakes and room for growth are wide open, working with a dynamic hands-on team advocating for proactive and relevant colloquies.

III. Description
As it was previously mentioned, The Gavel Club of Ateneo de Cebu is a student-led organization where student leaders and public speakers are given opportunities to become men and women for others. Although the organization has its' very own core group, The Gavel Club has a Moderator (a Teacher Chaperone) that serves as an overseer for all club activities.

IV. MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS
Membership Applications are ONLY open at the start of the school year. To apply for The Gavel Club, the organization's social medias will be posting around QR codes. The ORG-FAIR event held in the start of the year at the Senior High School Department allows every organization to advertise themsekves to newly appointed Grade 11 students. Make sure to stop by The Gavel Club's booth when the time comes!
V. MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
A member of The Gavel Club is called a Gavelier. He/she must posses the following qualities:• The member must be a student of the Sacred Heart School - Ateneo de Cebu Senior High School department to be deemed official.• The member must be no older than 18 years old upon their application into the organization at the beginning of the school year.• The member must have undergone the necessary application and selection process to be properly inducted as a bona fide member of the said public speaking organization of that said year.• The member should have the interest and passion for improvement in public speaking and social skills.• The member should have time for the organization’s activities.• The member should be willing to work to embody the club’s core competencies of public speaking, wit and stage presence, spontaneity and relatability, impactful interpersonal communication, and confidence.• The member should be willing to abide by the Qualities of a Gavelier as highlighted in the TGC House Rules.
